Vintage Kenner Star Wars collecting begins with identifying the exact figure and release. A character name or a retro-looking package can also describe a later toy, so review the item-specific details before comparing prices.

Record the Figure and Version

Request clear photographs of the front, back and identifying markings. Note the accessories, cape or other removable pieces. Compare the claimed version with a reliable reference; do not assume a familiar appearance or one molded date settles every production detail.

Loose Figure Checklist

  • Paint wear, discoloration and visible repairs
  • Joint condition and any damaged hands or feet
  • All included weapons, capes and accessories
  • Replacement or reproduction parts disclosed by the seller
  • Photos of the actual item you will receive

A figure and its accessories may have different histories. Ask whether they have been examined separately rather than treating “original figure” as a guarantee about every included piece.

Carded Figure Checklist

Look at both sides of the card, the bubble and its edges. Ask about creasing, cracks, yellowing, lifting, resealing or restoration. Different cardbacks are distinct comparison details; an earlier-looking card does not by itself establish a higher value.

Be Precise About Prototype Claims

StarWars.com’s mail-away history explains that the originally advertised rocket-firing Boba Fett shipped without the firing mechanism, while prototypes survived. It also describes a later rocket-firing release. These are not interchangeable items.

A prototype claim requires item-specific evidence and provenance. Do not infer it from an unusual color or a modified feature.

Compare Before Buying

Match the release, accessories, repairs and packaging when researching completed sales. Record delivery costs and ask about any condition detail missing from the photos. Decide whether you want a loose display figure or original packaging, and budget for that specific goal.

Our inspection checklist covers questions to ask when a listing’s authenticity is uncertain.
